Introduction to The Citadel

The Citadel evolved out of a period in time when Dr. Michael O. Smith’s  5-point ear acupuncture, the prime neuromodulator used with AcuDestress could not be provided to our patients due to the COVID-19 crisis. The first patients to use it were people finishing off their regular treatment in February 2020 and others who had benefitted from 5-point ear acupuncture over the previous 2 years. It was designed to train recipients to alter their own autonomic nervous system in positive self-applied ways, somewhat reminiscent of Stanley Rosenberg’s “basic exercise.” In other words, we can teach it, but you must apply it to make it work, to master it. The 3 elements it comprises, Lynne McTaggart’s Power of Eight, José Silva’s Mind Control Meditation and Gary Craig’s Emotional Freedom Technique, have all been subjected to independent research, are known to work, and can all be performed by yourself. Results are even better when a group assembles with the express purpose of practice and mutual support. It helps if one’s raw experience are expressed. If that’s unavailable you can still do it on your own.

In the process of designing it, a kind of  fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants effort, during which I listened carefully for clues around me and from the participants, as to what they needed, I was using the techniques themselves to move things ahead. It hardly felt like I was the designer, unlike how I had painstakingly “tweaked” AcuDestress from session to session 132 times. From the feedback so far, people are catching on at lightning speed.

Reading the background material which pertains to each technique may appeal to some users but it is not necessary to get the benefit. I have included most of the work from The Silva Mind Control Method, but certainly not all, so, if you need yo know more, buy the
book. Some techniques like “the basic exercise” require that you understand them intimately. You may benefit from reading Rosenberg’s

Accessing The Healing Power of the Vagus Nerve

If you are new to ACuDestress, or if you started in to The Citadel and didn’t finish the teaching sessions, all of the material I wrote and circulated is right here. You don’t need me to teach it, as I already have, and you can both read what I wrote and listen to the recorded meditations until you’ve mastered them for yourself. And you probably can still join the practice group. My best to you.   Brian C. Bailey M.D.

The Beginning
The original invitation (on the left) talked about “caremongering” in the face of COVID-19. I wrote “ Back in 1995, 2 months after their silent pinning, I invited clients to attend follow-up nights. I had nothing planned, as back then too, we were exploring new territory. I didn’t know what people needed. Watching people closely I learned about the 3 personality-determined ways people grow, as attendees found others who’d had like experiences, and chatted them up. We’ll expand that this time. “ (read it all if you want by CLICKING the picture to the left.)

Here I was referring to our discovery that under the effects of neuromodulation people get better in three distinct ways which relate to Dr. Karen Horney’s three personality types, which later surfaced as John Bowlby’s three forms of unstable maternal attachment, and in 1995 as our YELLOW, RED and BLUE personalities.

I then introduced The Citadel as a chapter in Ryan Holiday’s The OBSTACLE is the Way. To optionally read that chapter, CLICK the second page to the left. My apologies to the author, but maybe it’ll help him sell some books. This book is a barn burner.

The Middle
“Caremongering” - the redirection of our efforts to others can be practiced as Lynne McTaggart’s Power of Eight, but among those who come to AcuDestress, those who get entry to the program qualify by being someone who does not respond to psychoactive medication or can’t take it, and/or someone who has been in conventional psychotherapy which would merit the title “talk therapy,” and who have not gotten results that have brought about significant life-altering change (in each case, about 40% of the population. Enter Silva Mind Control.

Why Silva? José Silva taught his method over a three day weekend. Most meditative methods take much longer to learn. Kabat -Zinn’s Mindfulness Meditation takes eight weeks and a lot of practice, while 5-point ear acupuncture leads spontaneously to mindfulness without relying on meditation. Time was of the essence here, so I chose a rapid way in.

When I introduced Silva meditation, I was immediately asked if I would record the meditation with my own voice so people could listen to it. Those recordings are found online by CLICKING the page meditationlevel HERE.

The two pages on the left and and right are good reads if you’re in the midst of learning but don’t quite get what’s required. Silva says it’s repetition, and the availability of others to whom one can out one’s experience into words. I provided both of these, but people who missed elements can go back over the territory, catch up or do this for the first time here. At this stage we are showing you how to do basic meditation. Later we’ll add things.

Things Get More Complex

While doing the foundational Silva meditation techniques, and introducing the parts where extraordinary results start to occur, I also introduced Power of Eight, as something the group might decide to add once they were able to use Silva to get results for themselves. With Power of Eight people share their results psychically with others who need them, some of whom are group members who ask to be included.
We dis this throughout as a”sidebar” but later it will take a central role. Learn about POWER OF EIGHT HERE.
I also introduced Qi Gong here (pages on left and right)
as a possible adjunct, to make things move along even better.

We add The More Complex Silva Abilities

People are quite taken with the speed at which they begin to pick up the abilities Silva included in his training. One thing he mentions is proceeding with haste and not too much left brain processing. He also suggests gliding over thinking of one’s deficiencies, or talking about them in negative terms, as a way of becoming an “early adopter.” Silva work and the other methods act in mysterious ways, somewhat like EMDR to defang PTSD, emWave2 to break up alexithymia hastily, David Grand’s Brainspotting and Frank Lawliss’s Bioacoustic Utilization Device to reprogram habitual brain patterning.

Tapping and The Further Reaches of the Silva Method

As COVID picked up steam, we began to see senseless acts of violence, including some very scary ones. It became evident that the restrictions people were experiencing were re-triggering latent PTSD, and that this would come up in our work. It did, but the work was strong enough to overcome them by delivering presence as 5-point ear acupuncture does.

At this point I remembered how a woman who attended AcuDestress about eight years back, and who was needing
an answer for Hashimoto’s Autoimmune Thyroiditis. She moved
to Australia just after her session. After a few months I heard
from her that she had discovered Emotional Freedom
Technique (Tapping), was free of Hashimoto’s and was
teaching Tapping to others. She never looked back. I
came to feel that this method complimented the others
and should be included. LEARN ABOUT IT HERE.

Finishing Up

So, finally on the last evening, I introduced the lead-in exercises AS SEEN HERE.
which lead to Silva’s most convincing work - that of “working cases” psychically. As
this leads to one gaining confidence to work his other exercises, I will leave it to
individual group members to decide whether they would like to join with the others
to manifest this. It is not needed to counter the PTSD of COVID, but Silva’s use of
it sends people out with amazing confidence in their intuition. In the end, increasing
intuition is a superb way to function in difficult times.

I will be leaving it to you to join and lead the Practice Group. My work with be
suspended for the next four months and no groups will be held at South East
Ottawa CHC as they are all but closed.
